On the 5th of june 2019 a unique folk duo will perform in our Knights Hall. Caroline Lavelle and Clare Kenny first became friends in the late 90s while playing on tour with the Indigo Girls and have joined forces as an exciting new duo playing folk like you’ve never heard it before, weaving songs using world music, electronica and passionate electric cello and bass.
Caroline’s first foray as a vocalist was with Massive Attack, which brought her to the attention of William Orbit, who produced her first CD Spirit. It garnered critical and popular acclaim with The Times reporting that it had inspired Madonna’s Ray of Light album. Among others, she has sung and played with Peter Gabriel, Vangelis, Radiohead, The Chieftains, Muse, Loreena McKennitt, Nigel Kennedy, Michael Nyman, Philip Glass and De Dannan as well as being a regular with Real World artists. Her two other solo CDs (Brilliant Midnight and A Distant Bell) have produced songs since used on film & TV soundtracks including Six Feet Under, Joyride (John Dahl), The Eye of the Beholder (Ewan McGregor & Ashley Judd) and led to her appearance at TED. She has a new album out with her band Secret Sky and will be touring Canada and Europe with Loreena McKennitt in 2018-19.
Clare started her musical career in the reggae band Amazulu touring the world and having several top 10 hits. Since then she has recorded and toured extensively over many years with Sinead O’Connor, Indigo Girls, Shakespears Sister and Andrea Corr. She has written with various artists including Siobhan Fahey (Banarama and Shakespears Sister) which produced a track for The Pussycat Dolls as well as contributing to recordings by the legendary Brian Eno. She will be touring Australia later this year with Irish songwriter Damien Dempsey.
